In 1806, King Louie Bonaparte ordered this four-poster
mahogany bed decorated with gilded bronze from the Jacob-Desmalter firm in
Paris. It is shaped like a boat and is therefore called ‘lit en bateau’. It
used to stand in his bedroom on a platform covered with a tiger-skin.
